Know Before You Go
New York Cannabis Laws
Is recreational cannabis legal in New York?
Yes. New York legalized adult-use cannabis for adults 21 and older under the Marihuana Regulation and Taxation Act. You can buy it legally from a state-licensed dispensary like Dream Daze, licensed by the New York Office of Cannabis Management.
How old do I have to be to buy cannabis?
You must be 21 or older to enter Dream Daze and to buy any product. No medical card or special qualification is needed, just valid proof that you are 21 or over. We check ID on every visit.
What ID do I need to bring?
Bring a valid, unexpired government photo ID. We accept a driver license or state ID from any state, a U.S. passport, a military ID, or a foreign passport for international visitors. Digital IDs on your phone are not accepted, so bring the physical card.
How much cannabis can I legally possess in New York?
Adults 21 and older can legally possess up to 3 ounces of cannabis flower and up to 24 grams of concentrate at one time. This is the statewide limit set by the Office of Cannabis Management.
How much can I buy at once?
New York caps purchases at 3 ounces of flower and 24 grams of concentrate per customer, per day. The 3 ounce flower cap covers whole flower, ground flower, and pre-rolls combined. Ask our staff if you are planning a large order.
Where can I legally consume cannabis?
You can consume in a private home with the owner's permission, and in most outdoor places where tobacco smoking is allowed. You cannot consume in a vehicle, inside a business, on federal property, or in New York State Parks. Always check posted signs and local rules.
Can I drive after using cannabis?
No. Driving while impaired by cannabis is illegal in New York and is treated as seriously as an alcohol DWI. Never drive after consuming, and keep any cannabis sealed and out of reach while in a vehicle.
Can I take cannabis across state lines?
No. Crossing a state line with cannabis breaks federal law, even between two states where it is legal. That also means you cannot fly with it, and you cannot carry it across the Canadian border either way.
Visiting from Canada? Buy and consume within New York.
How do I know a dispensary is licensed and legal?
Every licensed New York dispensary posts an official OCM verification tool near the entrance with a QR code you can scan to confirm it is on the state list. You can also check the licensed dispensary list at cannabis.ny.gov. Dream Daze is a fully licensed adult-use retailer.
What is the difference between a licensed shop and an unlicensed one?
Licensed dispensaries are regulated by the state, sell only lab-tested products with accurate labels, and verify your age. Unlicensed shops sell untested products that may be mislabeled or unsafe, and they operate illegally. Shopping licensed protects your health.
What taxes are charged on cannabis in New York?
Retail cannabis carries a 13 percent tax, made up of a 9 percent state excise tax and a 4 percent local tax. New York replaced its old potency-based tax with this flat rate on June 1, 2024. The tax is added at checkout.
Do I need a medical marijuana card?
No. Dream Daze is an adult-use dispensary, so any adult 21 or older with valid ID can shop. No medical card, doctor note, or registration is required.

What are your hours?

What should I bring for my first visit?
Bring a valid, unexpired government photo ID proving you are 21 or older, plus a payment method we accept: cash, debit, or Dutchie Pay. Bring your questions too, our staff loves helping first-timers. Our
first-time visit guide walks through the whole thing.
Any tips for first-time shoppers?
Start low and go slow, especially with edibles, and tell our staff your experience level and the effect you are after. Ask about THC percentage, product type, and dosing instead of just reaching for the strongest option. Our budtenders are here to educate, not upsell.
Can I browse before I buy?
Yes. Come in with your 21 plus ID, browse the menu, ask questions, and learn with no pressure to purchase. We have a very educational staff, plus paper menus and displays throughout the store.
Can someone shop or pick up for me?
No. New York law requires the person buying or receiving cannabis to be 21 or older and to show their own valid ID. We cannot release an order, in store or by delivery, to anyone other than the verified buyer.
Can I bring kids or anyone under 21 inside?
No. State law limits entry to adults 21 and older, so no minors are allowed in the dispensary, even with a parent. Please plan your visit accordingly.
Are pets allowed inside?
Absolutely, we love having your furry friends. Please keep pets leashed or carried and well behaved while you shop. Service animals are always welcome.
What is your return policy?
Cannabis is a regulated, consumable product, so most items are final sale once they leave the store. If a product is defective, contact us right away with your receipt and the product and we will help within what state rules allow. Ask our staff about the current policy before you buy.

Products and Education
What is the difference between indica, sativa, and hybrid?
Indica is often linked to relaxing, body-heavy effects, sativa to uplifting and energizing effects, and hybrid to a blend of both. In practice your experience depends more on the cannabinoids and terpenes than the label. Tell our staff the effect you want and we will point you the right way.
What is the difference between THC and CBD?
THC is the cannabinoid that produces the high, while CBD is non-intoxicating and is often used for a calmer, clearer feeling. Many products blend both, and the ratio shapes how they feel. For more on how this ties into hemp law, read our
hemp vs weed guide. If you want effects without a strong high, ask about higher-CBD options.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are the natural compounds that give cannabis its smell and flavor, like citrus, pine, or earth. They also influence the overall experience alongside THC and CBD. Reading a terpene profile can help you predict how a product might feel.
What are live resin and rosin?
Live resin is a concentrate made from fresh-frozen cannabis to preserve more terpenes and flavor. Rosin is solventless, made with only heat and pressure and no chemicals. Both are potent and flavorful, and our staff can help you choose.
How do I dose edibles, and how long do they take?
Edibles usually take 30 minutes to 2 hours to kick in and last much longer than smoking. A common starting dose for new users is 2.5 to 5 mg of THC, and you should wait the full onset time before taking more. Start low, go slow, and do not re-dose too soon.
My edibles do not seem to work for me, what can I do?
We recommend taking edibles after eating fatty foods, which helps absorption. If you still do not feel effects, try our Nano Enhanced Gummies, which act faster because the smaller THC particles absorb while you chew, or try a beverage, which digests differently.
What is a COA and where do I find it?
A COA, or Certificate of Analysis, is the product's official third-party lab report detailing its chemical composition, safety, and purity. You can find it by scanning the QR code on the product. Every product we sell is lab tested.
How do I read a cannabis label?
A New York label shows the product type, total THC and CBD, serving size, ingredients, the licensed producer, a batch number, and required warnings. Checking total THC and serving size helps you dose correctly. Our staff can walk you through any label.
How should I store my cannabis?
Keep it in a cool, dark, airtight container away from heat, light, and humidity to protect freshness and potency. Always store it securely out of reach of children and pets. Do not leave it in a hot car or direct sunlight.
What is the shelf life of cannabis?
Properly stored flower generally stays good for about 6 months to a year, though potency and flavor slowly fade. Edibles and vapes follow the date on the label. When in doubt, check the packaging date.
What is microdosing?
Microdosing means taking very small amounts of THC, often around 1 to 2.5 mg, for subtle benefits without a strong high. It is popular for daytime use and for people new to cannabis. Ask our staff about low-dose edibles and beverages.
Do you sell CBD?
Yes. We offer a small selection of THC-free edibles and beverages, along with CBD bath salts and bath bombs. We also carry CBD treats for pets.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, debit, and Dutchie Pay, a secure bank-linked digital payment. Dutchie Pay lets you pay cashless from your bank account, in store and online.
Why can't I use a credit card?
Cannabis is still federally illegal, so the major credit card networks do not allow their cards for cannabis purchases. That is why dispensaries rely on cash, debit, and bank-linked options like Dutchie Pay. This is standard across New York.
